The Rare and Delicious Mangalista Pork from Hard Struggle Homestead

At Hard Struggle Homestead, located near Frederick, Maryland, we are passionate about raising the best possible pork for our customers. That's why we have decided to raise Mangalista pigs, also known as "the Kobe beef of pork."

Mangalista pigs are a rare breed that originated in Hungary. They are known for their thick, curly coats and marbled meat, which is rich in flavor and highly sought after by chefs and gourmands alike. Mangalista pigs are also known for their ability to thrive in harsh climates, making them a great choice for our farm in Frederick, Maryland.

In addition to their delicious meat, Mangalista pigs have other unique qualities that make them well-suited to our farm. They are hardy and easy to care for, with a calm and gentle disposition. They are also excellent foragers, so they require less grain than other breeds of pigs. This makes them more sustainable and better for the environment.

At Hard Struggle Homestead, we are currently raising two Half Mangalista Half Mulefoot pigs and two Half Mangalista Half Berkshire pigs. These pigs are a unique blend of Mangalista and other heritage breeds, giving them the best qualities of both. The Mulefoot pig, for example, is known for its dark, rich meat, while the Berkshire pig is known for its tenderness and flavor.

Our Mangalista pork is available for purchase in both half and whole quantities. A "half pig" consists of cuts from the front and hind quarters of the pig, while a "whole pig" includes cuts from the front, hind, and middle sections of the pig. This allows customers to choose the amount of meat that they want to purchase, depending on their needs and preferences. The pork will be processed on March 29, 2023.
