From driveway to wildflower paradise: the evolution of Hard Struggle Homestead

We are excited to announce a new project at Hard Struggle Homestead: planting our 3000 foot driveway as a wildflower meadow!

As many of you know, we have always been dedicated to sustainable farming practices. And now, we are taking our commitment to the environment one step further by transforming our driveway into a diverse and beautiful wildflower meadow.

Planting a wildflower meadow on our driveway will have many benefits. First and foremost, it will provide habitat for pollinators and other beneficial insects, which are essential to the health of our farm ecosystem. The flowers will also attract birds, butterflies, and other wildlife, making our farm even more vibrant and alive.

But that's not all! In 3-5 years, when the wildflowers are fully established, we plan to open a "pick your own" wildflower bouquet business. This will give our customers the opportunity to create their own unique bouquets of fresh, sustainable wildflowers. It will also provide a new source of income for our farm.

We are currently in the process of researching and selecting the best wildflower seeds for our climate and soil conditions. We will be planting a mix of annuals and perennials to ensure a long-lasting and colorful display. Some of the species we are considering include:

  • Black-Eyed Susan
  • Purple Coneflower
  • Wild Bergamot
  • Foxglove
  • Wild Columbine
  • Bee Balm
  • Butterfly Weed

We can't wait to see our driveway transform into a beautiful and bustling wildflower meadow. Stay tuned for updates on our progress and the opening of our pick your own wildflower bouquet business!
